Progressions in Royal Wells Bus Station Ideas (Project 4)
Using quick and rough idea generation sketching in my sketchbook, I have been developing my ideas for the Royal Wells Bus Station and my concept of memory further. I decided to create a memorable space where people can create new memories, and experience a bus station like no other that will stay in thier minds. I plan to use planting as a large part of this space, as well as moving water in several ways which will help to calm people, as well as mask some of the road noise, as well as the noise from the local airport. The water will also be a fun way to encourage younger people to have fun and create memories, mainly during summer months. My ideas consist of using an almost polkadot pattern of pocket planting in a paved space, both in the central island as well as around the perimiter paving. I will also change the bus shelters to more open sided shelters for people to have a more immersive experience in the space when waiting for the bus. I will also have a flowing artifical stream around the perimeter with small pedestrian bridges to cross over to the waiting shelters. This artificial could be powered by solar power, possibly from PV panels on top of the bus shelters. The heights and styles of planting and paving could be explored further to change the experience of people using the space.
