Practice Overview: Vogt Landscape Architecture
A practice which interests me greatly is Vogt landscape architecture. This is an international company with a headquarters in Zurich, and other offices including London. The practice is very high end, holding a high quality level in their work. The practice's landscape work clearly values high quality materials, including some which you don't often see.
An example of well thought out materiality and planting in harmony is this project in Basel, Switzerland. The smooth, long limestone paving slabs meet the area of softscape and become rough and weathered looking. This is to imitate the mountain terrain of "karst" (VOGT, n.d.) which is when limestone has been shaped by glaciers over millennia. I find this materiality and concept very interesting as the material choices conceptually mimic the mountainous landscapes of Switzerland, and the planting is kept to smaller trees and shrubs due to the shallow topsoil which is typical of these landscapes.
