Exploring the Use of Wet Ink.

Image
We were given the opportunity to explore using wet ink and brushes to draw and write this week. This was my first time using this medium and I foudn it a very interesting one to use. A skill I would need to develop if I were to use this drawing medium in the future would be when to top up the brush with ink and how much ink to top it up with. I also found it quite hard to get a straight line and I need to practice making heavier or lighter lines with a brush. Photographed is the work I created in the studio session this week.

Conceptual Model in Context of the Site - Wind and Memory

Image
Following my initial conceptual model, I created another, similarly sized model to explore how the concpets could be integrated into an installation at the site (River Chelt site). The elements of my first model that I carried over were the wave, the blue colours, and the rock textures I used to make one of the elements in the first model. I also added in some reflective surfaces and mirrors to symbolise reflection and a space of contemplation. I am very happy with how this model turned out, especially the different textures and materials I explored by creating it. This model was created mainly using paper mache on a cardboard frame. I also used garden wire, scrunched up off cuts of tracing paper for the river, salt mixed with paint and PVA glue for the path texture, acrylic paints, and kitchen foil for the mirrors.

Progressions in Royal Wells Bus Station Ideas (Project 4)

Image
Using quick and rough idea generation sketching in my sketchbook, I have been developing my ideas for the Royal Wells Bus Station and my concept of memory further. I decided to create a memorable space where people can create new memories, and experience a bus station like no other that will stay in thier minds. I plan to use planting as a large part of this space, as well as moving water in several ways which will help to calm people, as well as mask some of the road noise, as well as the noise from the local airport. The water will also be a fun way to encourage younger people to have fun and create memories, mainly during summer months. My ideas consist of using an almost polkadot pattern of pocket planting in a paved space, both in the central island as well as around the perimiter paving. I will also change the bus shelters to more open sided shelters for people to have a more immersive experience in the space when waiting for the bus. I will also have a flowing artifical str...

Concept exploration collages and a conceptual model.

Image
Tasked with creating four collages, exploring the concepts of Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. I took this brief quite figuratively and created a collage of images which made me think of each individual concept. We then showed these in our lecture and chose one of the collages to explore further as a three dimensional conceptual model over Easter. I chose to explore wind as I thought this would have the most broad opportunities for exploring different model making materials and techniques. I used a foam core base, with paper mache on thin wire frames, as well as gluing down some different materials I found in the garden.
